A total of 47 couples were married in a civil mass wedding ceremony officiated by Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo at the City Quadrangle on Friday.

This is the third time that Remollo officiated a ‘Kasalang Bayan’ to legitimize the union of couples, including common law partners, for free.

Like in the previous mass wedding, rings and pastries were given for free to the participating couples.

Remollo thanked the donors including members of the Muslim community for their contribution to the activity.

Many of the couples who tied the knot were already living together for more than five years.

However, financial issues prevented the couples from getting married in view of the expenses that come with a church or civil wedding.

Remollo, a lawyer by profession, has advocated particularly for live-in couples to legitimize their union and secure the future of their children.

Vice-Mayor Franklin Esmena, councilors Lilani Ramon, Alan Gel Cordova, Karissa Tolentino-Maxino, Michael Bandal, and Jose Victor Imbo and SK President Lei Marie Danielle Tolentino stood as wedding sponsors for the couples.
