Attendees of the book launch were mass communication students and faculty members of Silliman University (SU) and Negros Oriental State University and members of the local media.

One highlight of the book launching event is the reading of significant passages by four individuals representing the students, faculty, alumni and media.

The book launching event coincided with the celebration of SU’s 114th Founder’s Day Anniversary.

Dr. Maslog gave a lecture on the history of SU’s College of Mass Communication, from the beginning when it was still a school of Journalism until it became a college.

He was a professor and a former director of SU from late 1960s up to early 1980s.

Maslog added that Silliman is the only university outside Metro Manila that offers journalism during the 60s and the Martial Law period.

Aside from the book launch, Dr. Maslog also donated 20 other books he authored to SU main library.

Silliman University librarian Rosalino Dinoy accepted the donation in behalf of the university.

On the other hand, Dr. Maslog disclosed he is on the process of writing a book related to the history of the SU-College of Mass Communication to be launched in August next year.

The former academician is inviting alumni of the college to share their experiences on their lives as students of the program so he can integrate these stories in the book.

Dr. Maslog also authored several books on journalism and mass communication, such as Rise and Fall of Philippine Community Newspaper, Philippine Communication Today, Communication, Values and Society, Philippine Commuication: An Introduction and The Crown Jewel: A History of Trinity University of Asia.  (rmn/ral/PIA7-Negros Oriental/This article was first published at PIA website on Aug. 25, 2015)
