Philippine Information Agency-Negros Oriental formally opened its Information Kiosk located at the ground floor of the Robinson’s Place Dumaguete. The info kiosk is a platform to make sure that the public are well informed about government program that are related to the ASEAN and will be visible throughout the year.
Officials who led the ribbon cutting ceremony are (see photo below, L-R) DTI-Negros Oriental Official Dr. Angeline Gonzales, PIA-NegOr ICM Jenny TIlos, PIA -7 OIC-Regional Director Fayette Riñen, Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Remollo, and DFA-Dumaguete Regional Consular Office OIC Tita Rebollos.
Student dancers of Greyhound Dance Crew of Foundation University performed a lively modern dance number after the ribbon cutting ceremony to kick-off the program for the installation and launching of the Information Kiosk.
A short program was conducted to mark the official launching of the PIA Information Kiosk. PIA OIC-Regional Director Fayette Riñen delivers the opening remarks. She said the kiosk provides PIA a platform to perform its mandate in delivering timely, relevant and accurate information to the public. She added that the information kiosk will not only promote ASEAN in the city but also promote the tourism products and destinations and other government programs for the people.
Heads of partner agencies also delivered their messages of support and briefly discussed the some of the pillars of ASEAN.
DFA-Dumaguete RCO OIC Tita Rebollos gave an overview of the objectives and benefits of the country’s hosting of ASEAN meetings and summits this year.
DTI-NegOr OIC Dr. Angeline Gonzales talks about the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and its benefits to Filipinos. Gonzales explained AEC means more business options, opportunities to expand the market and the costs of doing business will be reduced because of lower tariff, streamlined export and import processes.
“AEC means opportunity for ASEAN, its members and its people. AEC compels each members to think big and look beyond their borders. Through the AEC, the PH 100 million consumers expand to over 600 million,” she said.
City Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo was the keynote speaker of the event. He highlighted the commonalities that member countries of the ASEAN can build on to ensure a prosperous and more secured future for the people. Mayor Remollo also commended PIA for putting up a kiosk with information and education materials that are readily available for the public that underscore the benefits we all derive for regional cooperation on trade, security, tourism, political stability, sports and peace.
Mayor Remollo also encouraged shoppers at Robinson to visit the Information Kiosk to know more about ASEAN and other government programs in Negros Oriental.
The activity ended with a photo op session between the PIA and City officials. (PIA7-NegOr)
