NEGROS ORIENTAL (PIA) – The Philippine Mental Health Association (PMHA) Inc.-Negros Oriental Chapter celebrated recently the Mental Health Month in Dumaguete City.

In observance of the month of October, PMHA held an Awarding of Plaque of Recognition to PMHA board member emeritus Atty. Antonio Ramas-Uypitching Sr.

Upitching’s award was in recognition of his many years of dedication and passion in the promotion of mental health as leader and benefactor.

While the PMHA provides guidance and educational programs for youth mental health through its education and information service, Uypitching also financially supports the construction of its conference and function room as venue of trainings and seminars.

PMHA Chairperson Dr. Betsy Joy Tan said Tony, as his friends call Uypitching, is known for his professional standing in the community and his community service.

He sits as director at the Cebu International Finance Corporation, Holy Child Hospital, Holy Cross High School, Sibulan Rural Bank Inc. and other positions of leadership and president and stockholder of RUSCO Motors.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health is the state of well-being in which every individual with their own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to their community.

PMHA is a private, non-stock, non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of mental health and prevention of mental disorders.

Their programs currently range from Education and Information Services, Clinical and Diagnostic Services, and Intervention Services. (rmn/jct/PIA7-Negros Oriental/This article was originally published at PIA Website on Nov. 3, 2016)
