‘Preserve sanctity of family to build a strong society’

DUMAGUETE CITY (PIA) — “To build a strong foundation of society, the sanctity of family  must be preserved,” said George Gilvero, chairman of Dumaguete City Family Week Steering Committee.

The topic “Matatag na Pamilya, Maunlad na Bukas” was discussed during a Kapihan sa PIA forum held in observance of Family Week celebration on September 24 to 31, 2016.

Invited speakers from the Worldwide Marriage Encounter (WME), the couple Adriano and Hilnora Gregorio, gave emphasis on the strength of a family based on the quality of relationship between husband and wife.

Hilnora Gregorio said her role first and foremost is as a wife, second as mother and third as a worker or employee.

According to Hilnora, being a wife is her priority, as she believes that the love of husband and wife will flow over  to the children.

She hopes that someday when the children will build their own families they will also become good and loving parents.

The Gregorio couple pointed out the importance of bonding, praying, eating together and listening to their children’s stories and experiences are ways of building memories with them.

Parenting, according to them, is a difficult task but the husband and wife teamwork in teaching the children values at an early age makes it easier for them to handle.

Juanito Tamparong, also of WME who comes from a broken family, relates how he and his wife struggled in preserving the unity of the family while raising their three children who are all successful in their respective fields of endeavor.

Tamparong added that his experience of not having both parents while growing up has challenged him to make sure that his family now will not be broken.

The Dumaguete City Social Welfare Office which spearheads the family week celebration has lined up programs for families, such as therapy sessions by trained social workers on counseling, maternal and child care sessions, family life development services and livelihood skills training to mothers to help their husbands augment the family income.
