DUMAGUETE CITY (PIA) — The Behavioral Science Clinic (BSC) in Barangay Candau-ay here has opened its residential-based rehabilitation facility recently and is now accepting clients with emotional and mental problems.
Resident psychiatrist Dr. Glenda Basubas said the clinic offers holistic approach with biological, psychological and spiritual aspects not only for drug dependent clients but also those with certain mental and emotional conditions.
Basubas said clients with state of depression, anxiety, anger, emotional or psychological problems including drug dependents may undergo certain programs in the clinic, be it for out-patient and in-patient programs.
However, she said drug dependents may take a dependency examination to confirm the condition.
“If proven he/she is drug dependent then that’s the time we recommend for inpatient but proven otherwise he/she can be treated as outpatient,” she said.
The treatment center team consists of psychiatrist, psychologist, nurses and social workers to care for their patients with psychiatric, psychological and medical conditions that contribute to dependence on drugs.
BSC caters to people with mental health behavior problem which provides professional assistance with holistic approach treatment.
With more than 10,000 suspected drug users and pushers in Negros Oriental who have voluntarily surrendered last month to the police in line with ‘Oplan TokHang,’ they may seek professional help at BSC.
Basubas explained the approach will not only be giving medication but also do physical exercise, train the patients on mindfulness, the process on how to do meditation and to relax the mind, and a little bit of yoga.
“The psychological aspect needs mental awareness which the patients will be guided and taught the perspective towards life, way of their adjusting or coping mechanisms; and there is also spiritual aspect which is also very important on how they will have their relationship with inner self or inner being with the Creator so that in the process of having spiritual upliftment and understanding and this follows the peace of mind,” she explained.
Basubas and psychologist center manager Aurora Flores led the opening and blessing of the clinic.
Basubas is a psychiatrist with Diplomate status of Philippine Board of Psychiatry and Fellow in the Philippine Psychiatric Fellow in the Philippine College of Addiction in Medicine. (rmn/jct/PIA7-Negros Oriental/This article was originally published at PIA website on Aug. 5, 2016)
