NEGROS ORIENTAL  (PIA) – Stop illegal gambling and illegal drugs in the province.

This was the marching order of re-elected Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo to heads of law enforcement agencies in his speech during the inauguration held recently at the Provincial Convention Center.

“As the present chief executive and the newly elected chair of the Negros Island Regional Peace and Order Council, we will put more teeth on running after all forms of illegal activities,” he announced.

The governor also disclosed that he already gave a directive to Chief Superintendent Conrad Capa, director of Negros Island Police Regional Office, and Sr. Supt. Harris Fama, chief of Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOrPPO), to stop illegal swertres, illegal gambling, and the proliferation of illegal drugs in Negros Oriental.

He sent a strong warning against those who are responsible for the spread of illegal drugs and illegal gambling, saying that he will run after them even if they are local officials.

Relative to this, the governor issued Executive Order 2015–10 mandating all law enforcement agencies to run after all forms of illegal activities in the province.

In response to this, Supt. Fama said this order of the governor is clear to him and assured that his agency will strive hard to accomplish this directive from the province’s chief executive.

In line with this, a Provincial Anti-Drug Summit is held today also at the provincial convention center.

Fama said barangay captains from the 557 barangays throughout the province along with some local chief executives are expected to participate in the summit.

The summit focuses the discussions on the  role of local and barangay officials in drug prevention, salient provisions of R.A. 9165, and the Philippine National Police’s Oplan “Tokhang.” (rmn/ral/PIA7-Negros Oriental/This article was originally published at PIA website on July 5, 2016)
