DOLE opens Labor Day celebration with a Walk for a Cause

DUMAGUETE CITY (PIA) – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)  here opens the celebration of Labor Day on May 1 in the province with a walk for a cause event dubbed ““Lakaw Mo, Edukasyon Ko.”

The event aims to gather funds to purchase school supplies for withdrawn and vulnerable children from DOLE’s identified child-labor free barangays of Barangay Mayabon in Zamboanguita town and Barangay Azagra in Tanjay City.

Provincial DOLE Senior Labor and Employment Officer Diego Nochefranca said the assembly time is at 5:30 a.m. along Rizal Boulevard in front of Bethel Guest House wile the walk will start at 6:00 a.m.

Registration fee is set at P20.

Nochefranca said the event will start at Rizal Boulevard  to Colon St., then to Real St. and to the North National Highway then turn left at Negros Oriental High School to the Negros Oriental Convention Center.

“We are inviting everyone to participate in this “Lakaw Mo, Edukasyon Ko” event, ”Nochefranca said during a recent Kapihan sa PIA event here.

Aside from this, Nochefranca disclosed that they will also hold a job fair on the same day for all jobseekers in the province.

This year’s Labor Day celebration carries the theme “Kinabukasan Sigurado sa Disenteng Trabaho.”

DOLE Information Officer Blessie De Padua explained that the theme is in consonance with the department’s advocacy on providing decent jobs.
