More than a hundred women-representatives from different local government units, schools and other non-government agencies are expected to participate in the summit to raise and share on issues and concerns face by women that need to be included in the government’s development agenda.
The activity is aligned with this year’s theme for the Women’s Month Celebration which says in Pilipino: “Kapakanan ni Juana, Isama sa Agenda” or in Cebuano: “Kaayuhan ni Juana, I-apil sa Adyenda.”
Gender and Development (GAD) provincial focal person Josie Columna said the theme resonates the call for gender balance in leadership and decision making and inclusion of women’s concerns in leadership platforms and the government’s development agenda.
In its effort to create more inclusive platforms for citizens, especially women to voice out their opinions and contribute in shaping public policies, the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) also launched the “Agenda ni Juana” crowd sourcing which is accessible through its website, www.pcw.gov.ph.
Said crowd sourcing envisions to gather public’s pulse on which women’s issues should be prioritized or addressed by the government within the next six years.
Results of this survey will aid the PCW in crafting or proposing policies related to gender equality, women`s empowerment, and the fulfillment of women`s human rights.
This online survey will run from March 1-31, 2016.
To join in the celebration, a Kapihan sa PIA forum will be held on March 22 with the Dumaguete City Federated Women’s Organization or the Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) and City Social Welfare & Development Office.
This focuses this year’s theme and the services needed for women that being offered by frontline government with SSS, PSA and GWAVE as guest discussants.
Moreover, the country also celebrates this year’s “Women with Disabilities Day” as per Proclamation No. 744 issued on December 6, 2004 – “Declaring the Last Monday of March Every Year as Women with Disabilities Day”.
The National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) spearheads the celebration as chair of the National Working Committee this year with its theme “ Kapakanan at Karapatan ni Juanang Maykapansanan, Isama sa Plano Ng Bayan.”
The theme aims to promote and advocate the full participation of women with disabilities and the integration of all their human endeavors in government’s overall national development plan. (mbcn/jct/PIA7-Negros Oriental/This article was first published at PIA website on March 11, 2016)
