The city government here together with the City Government of Alameda, in cooperation with the Information and Communications Technology Association of Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental (ICT Dumaguete) and the Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NOCCI) launched the “InstaScram” Mobile App Development Contest on Jan. 19.
The organizers invited programmers and app developers to create a game application that can feature famous tourist spots in the two cities.
The contest is one of the projects under the partnership program between the two cities.
“This is another milestone with the partnership that we have with the city of Alameda. I hope this will make a difference in the lives of the people in Dumaguete and in Alameda. It will be in the Internet, this will be used by everyone,” said Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria.
“InstaScram” is coined from the term instant photo and scram.
In this game, a player will pick a picture from his or her device and then the app will divide the picture into tiles and scram the photo. The objective of the game is to solve the puzzle in a given time.
NOCCI president Ed Du noted that the application can be useful to promote beautiful spots in Dumaguete City and Alameda.
He cited an example where a player will take a photo or a selfie at a tourist spot in Dumaguete and use the app.
After solving the puzzle, the player can be shared in social media accounts.
Therefore, it is important that the InstaScram app can be integrated to Facebook, Instagram, and other social media sites.
Du expressed his hopes that someday this application will become global.
“Today we make history. We are going to make a mobile game app that is going to be global,” Du said.
The contest is open to all bonafide students of any academic institution of Dumaguete City, including senior high school, college, and post graduate students as well as programmers and web developers residing in this city.
Entries can be submitted by an individual or by group.
Each contestant can submit up to three entries.
