NEGROS ORIENTAL (PIA) — The Bureau of Local Government of Finance (BLGF) under the Department of Finance in Region is currently assisting the local government units (LGUs) in increasing its revenue generation thru precise collection of real property taxes.
According to LRCO II Connie Rosales of Sibulan of Sibulan Treasurer’s Office, BLGF conducted a refresher seminar titled “Administrative Remedy thru Sale of Real Property at Public Auction” which was attended by almost 400 participants regionwide, composed of provincial and municipal treasurers.
Provincial Treasurer of Iloilo Dr. Melba Sullivan, who was the main speaker of the seminar, discussed the technicalities in conducting public auction sale of real properties.
Workshops included problem solving on public auction sale facilitated by Atty. Wilbert Taneca of BLGF.
Dr. Sullivan said that the Local Government Code of 1991, Sec. 519, specifically points out that “the local treasurer concerned who fails to dispose of delinquent real property at public auction in compliance with the pertinent provisions of the Local Government Code.”
It is said “any other local government official whose acts hinder the prompt disposition of delinquent real property at public auction shall, upon conviction, be subject to a fine of not less than P1,000 or more than P5,000, or imprisonment of not less than one month nor more than six months, or both such fine and imprisonment, at the discretion of the court.”
