NEGROS ORIENTAL (PIA)–Negros Oriental remains to be one of the most peaceful provinces in the region.
In a recent Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting, PSSUPT. Dionardo Bernardo Carlos, OIC/Provincial Director of Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office said PNP’s sustained operations and active support of stakeholders and other counterparts contributed in the over-all anti-crime efforts of the PNP.
Relative to this, police initiated actions for the month of August that resulted to the arrest of 60 drug pushers/users and 54 cases were filed in court, according to Carlos.
In keeping the streets safe, Carlos said that some admin personnel of the Provincial Police Office were deployed in accident-prone areas resulting to less traffic incidents, particularly in Dumaguete City, Bacong and Sibulan.
In a related development, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) with its newly installed provincial officer, Agent Romeo Asuncion Jr. disclosed that shabu is still the number one drug of choice among pushers and users in the province.
For the month of August, PDEA seized 320.64 grams of shabu with a total DDB value of Php 3,584,755.20. Asuncion also confirmed that illegal drugs supply comes into the province from Metro Manila, Mindanao and Cebu as earlier reported by PSSUPT. Carlos.
To effectively implement PDEA’s campaign against drug abuse, the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADACs) will be reactivated as support group in the conduct of PDEA’s drug prevention operation.
Asuncion said that proper coordination with the BADACs will help in minimizing, if not totally eliminating drug pushers and users in the barangay level. (mbcn/lpp/PIA7/Negros Oriental/This article was first published at PIA Website on Sept. 17, 2015)
