NEGROS ORIENTAL (PIA) – Negros Oriental’s annual grand cultural celebration, Buglasan Festival, will feature 125 events this year.
Some of the added attractions for 2015 Bulgasan Festival are “Pista sa Nayon” food festival and boodle fight which will be participated by different barangays, Galeria Obra De Artes de Oriental Negrense art show, Tropical Fish expo, “Hudyaka sa Kalye,” Bakbakan sa Buglasan boxing events, Buglasan Hair and Make-Up Artists Competition, and the first Ms. Negros Oriental.
This was disclosed by Buglasan Festival co-director Nichol Elman in a press conference at Visionaire Lounge, Perdices Coliseum, Dumaguete City.
This year’s Buglasan Festival carries the theme “Building friendship, Opening development opportunities” and will open on Oct. 16 and will run until Oct. 25.
Other highlight events of the festival include the 10th “Lutong Garbo” cookfest, Buglasan Festival of Festivals Showdown, Buglasan Festival of Festivals Sreetdance, Outstanding Oriental Negrense awarding ceremony, Opening of booths of different Local Government Units (LGUs) in Negros Oriental and other sports and cultural events and competitions.
Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo, who was also at the press conference, said the budget for Buglasan Festival 2015 is pegged at P5 million, which is higher than the previous year’s budget pegged at P3 million.
According to Elman, P2.5 million will be used as subsidy to LGUs for the construction of their booths at the capitol area, P1. 2 million for the LGUs who will join the Buglasan Festival of Festivals competition, while the remaining P1.3 million will be set aside for the prizes of each competition.
He, however, noted that they are intensifying efforts to raise additional funds for the prizes through marketing and promotions.
Meanwhile, Gov. Degamo also announced that everything is set for the Buglasan Festival.
The festival committee is also set to meet with the police for security implementation during the Buglasan Festival.
Elman said they will talk to the local police for and request for deployment in four strategic venues of festival events such as Robinson’s Place Dumaguete, Sidlakan Negros Village, Capitol Area, and Eskina de Mercado.
