SU board of trustees’ corporate secretary and member, Atty. Grace Sumalpong posted the announcement at the university’s website on April 8. The decision of the Board reinforces the need to sustain the strategic direction of the University through critical years of reforms to Philippine higher education, it reads.
The same affirms the leadership of the current President in achieving high standards of Christian academic learning, fiscal and financial management, physical plant development, local and international cooperation, and alumni and community relations, the announcement reads.
Dr. Malayang also issued a statement on his two-year term extension where he expressed his gratitude to the university’s board of trustees.
Malayang also said the two-year extension poses a challenge in the leadership community of the university in the pursuit of SU’s vision, mission and goals through the next few years of significant education reforms in the country.
He however reiterated his commitment to join in the collective efforts to ensure more success of the university.
Malayang is the 12th president of Silliman. He assumed the position on June 1, 2006 for a term of five years. In 2010, the university board unanimously conferred him a second term of another five years.
