DUMAGUETE CITY (PIA) — Bachelor of Science Accountancy freshman student of Silliman University (SU), Zsamyla Abrasaldo, was adjudged the provincial winner in the recently concluded 23rd Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) held at Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Dumaguete City.
Hannah Jael Cadusal, a BS Geology of Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) won second place while another Silimanian, Ariel Tag, a BS Accountancy won third place.
Provincial Statistics Officer Ariel Fortuito of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said the three provincial winners will represent Negros Oriental in the regional level PSQ on November 13 in Cebu City.
Fortuito said the PSQ is a contest designed to test college freshmen students on their knowledge and application on statistics
Abrasaldo, Cadusale, and Tag received P1,000, P700, and P500, respectively, and a trophy each.
Both contestants from Silliman University were coached by Kemmon Kilat while Normina Batucan coached the NORSU contestant.
A total of 15 contestants participated in this year’s provincial elimination from different universities and colleges in the province that include SU, NORSU, Foundation University, AMA-Dumaguete, and Systems Technology Institute (STI).
The 23rd PSQ is conducted nationwide among freshmen students enrolled in colleges and universities in the 17 regions of the country.
At stake for the winners in the PSQ National Finals are cash and trophies, among others.
All regional champions will also be awarded during the National Finals with a PSQ medal and a certificate of recognition.
Their respective coaches, the college or university where they are currently enrolled, as well as the high school where they graduated from, will likewise be given certificates of recognition.
