Dumaguete City observes ‘National Filipino Family Week’ celeb


DUMAGUETE CITY, Sept. 15 (PIA)–Dumaguete City to join the country in observing  the National Filipino Family Week (NFFW) on September 21-27 with this year’s theme “ Celebrating the Filipino Family: Resilient and Caring”.

In an inter-agency meeting recently, the City Social Welfare & Development Office set some activities for the weeklong celebration.

Among the activities that will start on September 21 include the Family Fun Run with the gun start at 6:00 a.m. at Kiwanis stage along Sta. Catalina street, said chairperson of the Family Week celebration, George Gilvero.

The fun run is divided into two categories; for the 3K-Family Fun Run will composed a father and mother and a child aging 12 years old and below, while, the 5K  also composed a father and mother and child aging 13 years old or youth,  City Sports Officer Ike Villaflores said

Other highlight of the celebrations will be the ecumenical service on September 22 at 1:30 p.m. at the Dumaguete Cathedral Credit Cooperative Conference hall located Sta. Rosa Street.

On Sept. 23 from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon, Kalipi family fun day; @ 1:30 p.m,  symposium at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints cultural hall in barangay Tinago.

A Kapihan sa PIA will also be held on Sept. 24 at 9:00 a.m. at Bethel Guest House and in the afternoon, Family dialogue; Sept. 25, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. – poster making contest; and medical and dental mission on Sept. 26 from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon at Quezon Park.

Presidential Proclamation No. 60 dated September 28, 1992 and Executive Order No. 241 dated June 9, 1995, declared the observance of the National Filipino Family Week on the last week of September and every year thereafter.

It is aimed to strengthen family unity and relationships through meaningful celebration and promotion of Filipino values. (mbcn/JCT/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
