4 LGUs in NegOr vie for 2014 Timbayayong Awards

DUMAGUETE CITY (PIA) – Four Local Government Units (LGUs) in Negros Oriental with their partner Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) vie for the 2014 Timbayayong Awards for best LGU-NGO in local partnership.

This was announced by Msgr. Merlin Logronio, President of the Negros Oriental Network of NGOs (NEGORNET) during the kick-off ceremony in observance of the Provincial NGO and People’s Organization (PO) week in Dumaguete City today.

These four LGUs are from Bayawan City, Tanjay City and from the municipalities of Zamboanguita and Bindoy.

NEGORNET will bestow the award to the LGU and its partner NGO based from their submitted project proposal for the development of their community.

These LGUs will be evaluated based on the effective working relationship between the NGO or PO and the local development council and other local special bodies, the quality of the process of service delivery to its beneficiaries, demonstration of efficient resource management and provision of project sustainability and the LGU and NGO or PO profiles.

The pre-judging session of Timbayayong Awards will be on August 7 at the Provincial Convention Center, while the final judging and awarding of the recognition will be on August 8 in the afternoon also in the same venue.

Amlan Mayor Bentham Dela Cruz, who was there at the opening ceremony of the NGO and PO Week shared his insights on the Timbayayong Awards. Amlan was the 2013 recipient of the said awards with its partner NGO the Tandayag Fishermen’s Association with the project on protection and conservation of the marine resources.

Mayor Dela Cruz stressed the three important factors in LGU-NGO partnership which are poverty alleviation, social responsibility and sustainability.

“If you sum up all these and they are being satisfied, you can say that program, supported or initiated by the LGU is a success story,” Mayor Dela Cruz said.

The grand winner of Timbayayong award will receive a plaque of recognition and a project certificate worth of P200,000. The first runner up will get a project certificate worth of P150T and the second runner with P100T project certificate.

The Timbayayong Awards is one of the highlight events of the Provincial NGO and PO Week.
