BAYAWAN CITY (PIA) – Siblings Julie Garsula Jonales, 10 years old, male and Geovila G. Jonales, 6 years old, female both residents of barangay Tabuan, Bayawan City were reportedly drowned at the Tambukod creek in Bayawan City at around 4:30 pm on July 14, 2014 according to Edilberito Euraoba II head of Bayawan City Rescue Team.
Tambukod creek has a stretch of 4-5 kilometers leading to Tabuan river.
Euraoba said the creek overflowed in the afternoon of July 14 due to continous rains.
On their way home from Dita Elementary School, barangayTabuan, the kids were reportedly crossing Tambukod creek passing in an improvised wooden bridge that broke down and fell into the creek according to Euraoba.
Euraoba and members of the Bayawan rescue team responded immediately to the incident and recovered the body of Jeovila Jonales at 5:00pm on the same day in the vicinity of Tambukod creek while the body of Julie Jonales was declared missing after the rescue team failed to recover his body.
