DUMAGUETE CITY, Feb. 11 (PIA) — Negros Oriental has joined the entire world in rising for justice in celebration of One Billion Rising 2014 through a series of activities.

The event will kick off with an opening of ‘Jerstory Exhibit’ of women artists and a Women’s Justice Fair on February 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Robinson’s Place-Dumaguete.

According to one of the local One Billion Rising organizers, Atty. Myrish Antonio, about 35 women artists will display their works during the exhibits, including Elle Divine, Muffet Villegas, Susan Canoy, Kitty Taniguchi, Arlene Delloso-Uypitching, and Sharon Dadang-Rafols.

The exhibit and fair will run for one week from February 14 to 21 during mall hours.

Legal issues posed by women will also be tackled by legal professionals from FU Law Forum, Silliman University (SU) Law Alumni Association, SU Law Batch 2014, and the Salonga Center for Law and Development on the same event.

At around 1:00 p.m. on Valentine’s Day, several public and private high schools, non-governmental organizations, and private advocate groups will converge to hold an Advocacy Parade around the Dumaguete City.

The parade will culminate at Quezon Park where they will hold a mob dance at 2:30 p.m.

On February 16 (Sunday), the Vagina Monologues play will be staged in Tagalog and Bisaya by advocate-actors at SU Luce Auditorium at 8:00 p.m.

Tickets are available at the SU Psychology Department.

This year, the world is rising for justice, according to VDay Negros Oriental Chair, Michele Joan Valbuena.

“Let us all rise, release and dance against all forms of injustices for women and men in the planet,” said Valbuena.

Atty. Antonio invited the public to join and participate in any activities to rise for justice.

The One Billion Rising activities are organized by core group members Glynda Descuatan, Myrish Antonio, Dinah Chu, Michele Joan Valbuena, J Marie Maxino, Lea Janice Sicat, and Michelle Goldstein. (rmn/JCT/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
