DUMAGUETE CITY, Feb. 6 (PIA) – The Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Negros Oriental urged the athletes joining the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVRAA) meet this month to do their best.
“To the athletes, I told them ‘Sulong NegOr!’ We want to be number one. The potential is already in you, so yours is to do your best,” DepEd Negros Oriental Division Supt. Salustiano Jimenez said.
Jimenez hopes that this year, the Division of Negros Oriental will be able to climb further in the rankings of schools division participating in the CVRAA.
Last year, Negros Oriental was at fifth place in the overall rankings.
The DepEd Division here sent 700 delegates for the CVRAA slated on Feb. 8 – 13 in Cebu.
Five hundred of them are student athletes who will compete in various sports activities except gymnastics.
Jimenez explained that division has no delegates for gymnastics this CVRAA meet but he already instructed the supervisor in-charge of sports to start training athletes for gymnastics this school year so that they can participate in said event in the next CVRAA.
The first batch of delegates already left for Cebu last night while the second batch is set to travel this morning.
Before leaving, Jimenez talked to the delegates and challenged them to be number one, be the most disciplined delegation, and be the delegation with the cleanest and greenest billeting quarters.
Meanwhile, the DepEd Division of Negros Oriental has allocated P4.2M as financial support for CVRAA but Jimenez added that local government units also shared some funding for the schools participating in the regional sports event. (rmn/RAL/PIA7-NEGOR)
