NEGROS ORIENTAL, Dec. 4 (PIA) – The Provincial Agriculturist Office (PAO) conducts a two-day training on damage appraisal and reporting to all agriculture area coordinators and key personnel at the Barangay Development Center in Sitio Caticugan, Siaton town on Dec. 4-5.
The training is the PAO’s response to Gov. Roel R. Degamo’s order to create an updated agriculture damage report within 24 hours after an onslaught of typhoon or other natural calamities, according to PAO Information Officer Oliver Lemence.
The training will have lectures on basic weather forecasting, climate change, mapping of calamity prone areas and damaged crops primarily rice, corn and other high valued crops and fisheries.
Provincial Agriculturist Gregorio Paltingca believes the training is a big help to his office since the PAO is part of the Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council.
“There should be uniform reporting and interpretation of data to guide the governor in his decision making, especially in declaring a state of calamity,” Paltingca said.
Area coordinators are agricultural technicians that manage teams in different local government units in implementing agricultural programs and projects throughout the province. (mbcn/RAL/PIA7-NEGOR)
