DUMAGUETE CITY (PIA)–Dumaguete City to join the country for Family Week celebration on September 23-27 with activities lined-up through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
This year’s theme “ Unity Across Generation: A Strong Family, A Strong Society,” underscore the importance of strengthening families as a basic unit of society.
Chairperson of the Family Week celebration, George Gilvero said, the activity will start with the ecumenical service on September 23 at 1:30 pm at the cultural hall of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at Barangay Tinago.
Other highlight of the celebrations, on Sept. 24 from 8am to 12 noon, Kalipi family fun day symposium at the Women’s Center; Sept. 25 at 9am, Kapihan sa PIA Forum at Bethel Guest House and in the afternoon, Family dialogue; Sept. 26, from 1pm to 5pm, poster making contest; Sept 27, Skills Training from8am to 12 noon.
Meanwhile, on Sept. 23 to 27, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints or Mormons will hold an exhibit for the family history called Genealogy, meaning to know the family tree and one’s heritage. The Family History Exhibit is open to the public.
The CSWDO will also hold a medical and dental mission on Sept. 27 from 8am to 12 noon at the Quezon Park.
Gilvero said the celebration aims to highlight the importance of families, enhance understanding of their functions and problems, and focus attention on the rights and responsibilities of all family members.
The Family Celebration was instituted by Presidential Proclamation No. 60 in 1992 by then President Fidel V. Ramos declaring the last full week of September every year as Family Week.
The National Committee on the Filipino Family chaired by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) spearheads this celebration with partners from non-government organizations, government agencies, and the private sector. (mbcn/JCT/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
