DUMAGUETE CITY, Aug 12, 2013 (PIA) — The National Statistics Office (NSO) – Negros Oriental has lined-up activities to celebrate the 73rd NSO founding anniversary on August 19.
This year’s theme is “Handog ng NSO: 73 Taong Taos-Pusong Serbisyo sa Mundo.”
There will be sports like basketball and badminton, as well as quiz bee to be held at the NSO office according to Ariel Fortuito of NSO.
“Other activities which are yet to be carried on for the month-long celebration includes health and fitness promotions or other related physical activities; outreach programs that are in line with the mission of the NSO; livelihood programs; and lastly, a clean-up drive of selected areas within Dumaguete City,” said Fortuito.
The celebration started August 2 when NSO personnel did office clean up.
NSO is the government’s major statistical agency responsible for collecting, compiling, classifying, producing, publishing and disseminating general-purpose statistics as provided for in Commonwealth Act 591, an act creating a bureau of the census and statistics to consolidate statistical activities of the government.
NSO was founded as the Bureau of Census and Statistics on Aug. 19, 1940 by virtue of the enactment of Commonwealth Act 591. It became the National Census and Statistics Office in 1974 and was renamed National Statistics Office in 1987. (FCR/JCT/PIA7, Negros Oriental)
