CEBU CITY, Aug 6 (PIA) — Scholars of Young Minds Academy (YMA) Season 7 will hold the Young Citizens Forum 2013 on August 3 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Eduardo Aboitiz Hall of Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc.’s (RAFI) Eduardo Aboitiz Development Studies Center (EADSC).

The forum is designed for the youth to take an active role in community development towards creating a better Cebu, and also serves as a venue for the YMA scholars to share their experiences, learning, and insights.

According to RAFI communication assistant officer Hannah Marie Aranas the scholars will be presenting the results of the community assessment that they conducted in their assigned Metro Cebu local government unit immersion site as well as present key recommendations for consideration of the LGU and civil society leaders and residents.

The participants will also be presenting highlights of the research that they conducted for their assigned LGU in line with the Mega Cebu 2050 Development Strategies, said Aranas.

A major component of YMA, a youth leadership and citizenship program of RAFI, raises the YMA scholars’ awareness of the dynamics and challenges facing the community.

Through input sessions, exposures, learning visits, immersions and research, scholars gain a deeper understanding of the present situation, the strengths and assets, and the problems, and challenges affecting the community.

This allows them to develop a community assets- or needs-based project that will help address issues and concerns within the framework of the season’s theme, which is Urban Development.

YMA is a program of RAFI-EADSC under the Leadership & Citizenship focus area, which aims to groom future leaders and influences in a community that is ready to effect change.

Other focus areas of RAFI are Integrated Development, Microfinance & Entrepreneurship, Culture & Heritage, and Education. (mbcn/JCT/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
