DUMAGUETE CITY, Aug 6 (PIA) — The Negros Oriental Network of Non-Government Organizations (NGO) and People’s Organization (PO) or Negornet celebrates the 10th NGO and PO Week on July 29-August 8 with the theme “Civil Society Organization (CSO) Engagement for Local Governance and Development.”

The theme promotes a strengthened partnership between the Local Government Units (LGUs) and CSOs like Negornet in giving service to the people.

Msgr. Merlin Logronio, President of the Negornet said the events under the NGO and PO Week are funded by the provincial government to exemplify what will happen if there is a partnership between the LGU and the CSO.

However, he noted that CSOs should have participation in provincial planning activities as the law mandates them to be involved in local development councils.

The NGO and PO Week began last July 29 with an induction ceremony for Negornet’s board of trustees.

Allyn Lopez, Executive Assistant for CSO Empowerment under the office of DILG Undersecretary for Urban Poor, Informal Settlers and Other Special Concerns administered the oath taking of Negornet officials.

During the event, Lopez explained to group the DILG’s CSO Empowerment Fund program which aims to enhance CSOs capability building measures and capacitate them in participating to local government bodies through skills trainings on development planning and budgeting.

Lopez said the DILG is now finalizing the guidelines of the program which will be implemented soon.

Representatives of NGOs and Pos under Negornet then had a dialogue with Lopez.

After the kick-off activity, Negornet announced the line-up of its activities in observance of the NGO and PO Week.

These include a Provincial CSO Conference on Local Governance and Accreditation on Aug. 1-2 at the Negros Oriental Convention Center.

There will also be an Assessment Workshop on Solidarity in Dreampark, Sibulan at Aug. 3 and a forum with the Provincial Risk Reduction Management Council on Aug. 8 at the Provincial Convention Center.

There will also be a consultation dialogue between Negornet and Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo. (mbcn/RAL/PIA7-NEGOR)
