MANJUYOD, Negros Oriental, Aug. 6 (PIA) – The Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative (NORECO-I) reminds barangay captains in their coverage areas especially in Manjuyod to submit their list of non-energized sitios for possible electrification.
NORECO-1 General Manager Jose Juvileo Acabal said barangay captains should fill out the certificate of unergized sitio the NORECO-I recently gave them. The electric cooperative will then pass the certificates to the National Electrification Administration (NEA) for approval.
Once the NEA approves the electrifications of the sitios, it will release funds to start the project.
“We want to get the list of non-energized sitios from you so that we can start surveying your area and submit it to Manila. Without the summary and the certification, NEA will not act on the request,” Acabal reminds barangay captains.
Acabal noted that among the NORECO-I coverage areas, only the town of Bindoy has already completed the list of non-energized sitios.
Acabal also said that there are only 48 sitios in the northern part of Negros Oriental approved for electrification for this year. Still, the electric cooperative continues to accept applications for electrification from non-energized sitios in the province.
In Manjuyod, five sitios are included in the NEA’s list of identified sitios that will be energized before December 31, 2013 under the government’s Sitio Electrification Program.
The NORECO said its goal is to provide electricity to all the sitios with no power on or before 2016.
Because of this, barangay leaders are urged to submit their list of non-energized sitios as soon as possible.
NORECO-I Institutional Services Manager Lynn Manlalangit explained that it’s the NEA who plans electrification projects including its budget allocation.
“What’s important is that you submit the names of non-energized sitios early so that the NORECO can give to NEA and NEA can release the funds quickly,” Manlalangit said.
The NORECO-I, in coordination with the Philippine Information Agency-NegOr Information Center recently conducted a Kapihan Forum in Manjuyod.
The forum aims to inform their consumers on the nearing elections of the cooperative’s Board of Directors and answer electrification issues in the area. (mbcn/RAL/PIA7-NEGOR)
